5 flooring trends you need to know about for summer 2017

Do you want to update your flooring at home but not sure what look to go for? We've got just the advice you need.

Flooring specialists, Posh Flooring, have predicted the biggest flooring trends for summer 2017 by analysing Google trends data, Pinterest trends and industry knowledge.

As we previously revealed, we're moving towards more creative and statement floorboards, and this certainly won't change in the next few seasons.

Stephen Gillen, head of marketing at Posh Flooring, said: 'We are seeing a move towards homeowners becoming more creative, daring and original with their décor. This trend is reflected in the flooring our customers are choosing. People are opting for parquet patterns and bolder colours, for example.'

So, take a look at the most sought-after trends this summer - it might just be the perfect choice for your home:

1. GREYS

The recent surge in popularity of grey flooring has had experts in the industry wondering whether the grey trend is simply a fad or potentially timeless. Search trends data shows an increased interest in grey flooring over the past year and it doesn't look likely to dip anytime soon.

'It looks like the colour grey is here to stay,' Stephen said. 'It's quickly become a favourite among those wanting to achieve a clean, classic look throughout their homes.'

Dark greys have proven to be particularly popular on Pinterest. Stephen suggests 'contrasting darker greys with bright accessories, in yellow or coral for example, to give a dramatic and modern feel.'

2. SUMMER SHADES

Both blonde and pecan are shades are quickly growing in popularity. They work with oak, bamboo and solid wood flooring and are ideal for summer as they add a little warmth to any room.

'Our solid wood flooring range drives a lot of traffic to our website, which helps us predict what the next wood flooring trend will be,' Stephen said. 'Whilst many will opt for a medium or dark wood, as it's thought of as more forgiving, blonde and pecan shades of flooring are stylish and can make even the smallest of rooms look more spacious. We are expecting lighter shades of flooring, particularly blonde, to be really popular come summer.'

3. MATERIAL IS KEY

Eco-friendly flooring has taken the industry by storm with materials such as cork and bamboo increasing in popularity. These renewable and biodegradable materials are a stylish way to tell the world you care about the environment. And they come in a plethora of colours and styles to choose from. 'Eco-friendly flooring is as much about choice as it is about trends,' Stephen said. 'We predict that, with the environment often at the forefront of the news, more people will be choosing renewable, biodegradable flooring in 2017.'

4. PATTERNS ARE BIG

Parquet flooring is making a comeback - it's geometric, angular and artistic. There are many different types of parquet flooring and according to Stephen, 'consumers are getting really experimental with it. You can choose colourful parquet floorboards to really make a statement - blues work well in this instance.'

Incorporating a parquet pattern into your kitchen or living area will add lots of character.
